My name is Sheryl, I am a crocheter, knitter, weaver, yarn maker and lover of wool and the animals who grew it for us.

Spun Fleece is my art as expressed through the making of yarn. I am not a technical spinner; therefore, my yarn does not look like it came from a commercial mill; my yarn tells a story. Yarn is my art.

Because I also practice many forms of fiber art, I understand the importance of certain technical aspects of yarn making. I spin yarn that can be used in a variety of creative endeavors; in addition to knitting, crochet, weaving, punch needle, and needle point, my art yarn can be used for mixed media art, art-journaling, fiber art sculpture, book arts, and sometimes it is beautiful artfully arranged in a bowl or platter.

I tend just start crocheting and I follow where the yarn leads me. Lately it seems most of my yarn wants to become some kind of vessel. I am liking the texture and the flow. I’ll share when it is finished.

A completely freeform shape that, with the addition of a glorious violet hand spun edging, becomes an abstract pansy growing in the grass. Violet, orange and green are secondary colors that create a beautiful start to the day.

After looking at this flower for a while, I decided it was ok but not great. A few minutes and a little embellishment it has been transformed.
I am working on creating my version of abstract flowers in a way that others can replicate them as well. I have projects in mind for these and I want you to be able to make them too!
To me, the magic of making lace is witnessing the transformation of blocking. It never gets old.
