Frequently Asked Questions
Is This Yarn Soft Enough To Wear?
Everyone has a different level of tactile sensitivity, so there is no easy answer to this question. The information given for each yarn includes breed of sheep (if known) and whether it is considered a fine or coarse wool. Unless you have a true wool allergy, rather than sensitivity to the touch of the wool, most of my yarn can be used for wearables. If you have any doubts, please contact me ahead of time about a specific yarn.
Where Do You Get The Wool?
I try to buy most of my wool from small farmers and fiber producers. When this is not possible, I purchase in bulk from companies that have high standards for the ethical sourcing of their products.
How Do You Dye Your Wool?
Professional grade acid dyes are used in the dyeing process. These are the same dyes used by yarn dyers, and the acid used to make the dye adhere is citric acid or vinegar. Each batch of wool is dyed and rinsed until the dye water is clear. Having said that, occasionally deep, saturated colors can still wash out during the first washes. I take care of that in the washing of the after spinning.
Can You Spin Custom Yarn?
At this time I am not taking custom orders. If this becomes an option, I will let everyone on my email list know first, then I will make a public announcement.
