Nine Years & Counting
I first had the vision for what Spun Fleece is becoming in the early 2000s. My memory is foggy, but it was definitely before 2010. My yarn shop, Yarntopia was thriving despite the economic downturn of 2008 and the effect that had on a region dependent on the oil industry. I had just learned to make yarn. First on a spindle and then a wheel. Spindle spinning is still my absolute favorite thing to do; however, much of the yarn I spin for art is made on my wheel.
I came up with the name and, in the days before Canva, used an app to create a very cute logo. My plan was to spin yarn for the shop as well as for my free-form crochet art. I soon learned that running a business AND making product for that business was more than I could manage. So, the spinning returned to the realm of hobby. I never lost the desire or vision for what Spun Fleece is now becoming.
When I closed the shop in 2017, I just knew the moment had arrived for my vision to finally become a reality. Little did I know life would once again get in the way, and so, nine years later here I am. This time the pieces are falling into place and my yarn-making dream is becoming a reality.
I hope you join me on this ride. Whether you are a spinner, knitter, crocheter, fiber artist of any discipline, or just someone who loves a good story, join me for this journey into yarn making and story telling.
